Frequently Asked Questions

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a form of natural health care that focuses on supporting the body’s innate ability to heal and maintain balance. Rather than simply treating symptoms, naturopathy aims to understand and address the underlying causes of health concerns.

A naturopath considers the whole person, including physical health, nutrition, lifestyle, environment and emotional wellbeing. By looking at how these factors interact, naturopaths work to identify what may be contributing to imbalance in the body.

A consultation may include a range of assessment methods to help understand your health picture. Treatment plans are personalised and may include:

  • Nutritional and dietary guidance

  • Herbal medicine

  • Nutritional supplements

  • Lifestyle recommendations

  • Functional or pathology testing where appropriate

Naturopathy is considered a gentle, drug-free approach to health care, designed to stimulate and support the body’s natural healing processes.

What happens during a naturopathic consultation?

Your consultation is designed to give your naturopath time to understand you, your health history, and the unique concerns that brought you to the clinic. Appointments take place in a relaxed, respectful environment where you can discuss your health openly.

Initial consultations usually take 60–120 minutes and include a comprehensive health assessment. During this time your naturopath may discuss:

  • Your main health concerns and symptoms

  • A full body systems review

  • Your diet and nutrition

  • Personal and family health history

If appropriate, gentle in-clinic assessments such as iridology, tongue observation, or nail analysis may also be performed.

After gathering this information, your naturopath will explain what they believe may be contributing to the underlying causes of your health concerns. Naturopaths use a framework known as the Six Guiding Principles of Naturopathy, which focuses on supporting the body’s natural ability to heal.

Together, you will discuss a personalised treatment plan. Your naturopath will explain the reasoning behind any recommendations, which may include:

  • Herbal medicine

  • Nutritional supplements

  • Dietary guidance

  • Lifestyle adjustments

  • Functional or pathology testing if needed

Following your appointment, you will receive a comprehensive treatment plan by email. This typically includes:

  • Detailed herbal or supplement prescriptions

  • Dietary and nutritional guidance

  • Recommended testing (if applicable)

  • Lifestyle recommendations and next steps

Follow-up appointments are usually shorter. These sessions focus on reviewing your progress, discussing any test results, adjusting your treatment plan if needed, and setting the next steps for your ongoing health goals.
